Northumberland OPP and Cobourg Police Service officers apprehended the male where he was then taken back into OPP custody.

Jordan REID was re-arrested and charged with the following offences:

  •  Escape Lawful Custody

A escaped prisoner met his match after a woman slugged him when he tried to get into her vehicle on Sunday, February 17, 2019 in Cobourg.
Shortly after 1 p.m. it’s believed Special Constables with the Ontario Provincial Police were preparing to transport a prisoner from the Northumberland OPP detachment in Cobourg.
Suddenly the prisoner allegedly assaulted both Special Constables and bolted from the detachment and ran across four lanes of Division Street.
Former Cobourg resident Margie Matthews was just filling up gas at the Shell station on Division Street when she noticed a man with no shirt trying to get into a car right beside her vehicle.
The person in Matthews vehicle shouted for her to get inside her car, but it was to late.
“I opened up my car door and he went to grab me and my steering wheel and I ended up, unfortunately slugging him.”
The escaped prisoner then took off again running, but Cobourg Police and Northumberland OPP officers quickly captured him just a few metres away.
“As I was trying to get in my car, my door was open so that’s when I guess he figured he could get in my car.”
Matthews was shaken up from the incident, but said, “I feel badly for slugging him but, he tried to get me first.”
The prisoner was taken back to the Northumberland OPP detachment and is likely facing further charges.
