With a 5-2 win over the Aurora Tigers on Monday night, the Cobourg Cougars have now earned points in eight straight Ontario Junior Hockey League games.

That stretch has included seven wins, including five straight, and one overtime loss.

The Cougars (15-15-3-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the midway mark of the second period Monday night in the win over Aurora (5-27-0-4) at the Cobourg Community Centre.

Nicholas Aromatario opened the scoring at 4:02 of the first period and Erik MacNiel made it 2-0 at the 15:56 mark of that opening frame.

A power-play goal by Jason Stachelbeck 10:33 into the second period gave the Cougars the three-goal advantage that paced their way to victory.

Cobourg took a 3-1 lead into the third and it was bolstered by another power-play goal, this time from Jacob Campbell at 6:31.

Aurora cut the deficit to 4-2 with a power-play goal of their own midway through the third before Jacob Gilbert added an insurance marker, scored shorthanded, for the Cougars at 14:48.

Stachelbeck added two assists to his goal to record three points in the Cobourg win as did teammate TJ Koufis with three assists.

The Cougars return to action this Saturday when they host the Trenton Golden Hawks (28-7-1-1). Game time is 7 p.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre.

The game is part of Hockey Day in Northumberland and the Hometown Hockey festivities happening this weekend.

Pre-order tickets are available at http://www.cobourgcougars.com and will also be available at the door. $2 from every ticket sold will be donated to Jack Bradimore and the Grace Bowen Tribute Fund.
